We got up early for our bus trip 2 hours from Bratislav, Slovakia within the Slovakian countryside to visit a family at their home.
Before the bus came, we went up on top of the boat and played a little. Minkey was playing chess with some gargantuan chess pieces and lost, so threw himself on the deck crying. And the boat Captain had promised to let me drive the boat, but he was no where around, so it wasn’t a good start of the day for the Mink. And as you can see above, Minkey Mama got mad at me and was biting my fingers, so if anyone reads this, please call the SPCA on her.
Anway, we went in for coffee and breakfast, and that helped a little, but it started to cloud up a little and then was raining cats and dogs by the time we had our 2 hour bus ride.
It did turn out to be a really fun day though, because the Slovakian family we visited and the Slovakian guide, too, were really sweet and interesting.
Our guide was telling us about their language and said even other Eastern Europeans in nearby countries couldn’t speak their language. She gave us some examples by saying some American phrases in their language. Minkey started snickering and screeching because those words were 50 thousand letters long and it was funny to him!
Then when we got to their house, we were in my element because it turned out to be a nice house with a wine cellar and a vineyard. WhoooooHooooo!
We went to the cellar first so the owner could show us that, the vineyard in the back, and let us sample some of their wines. Minkey was in Minkey Mama’s purse, but when the wines came out, Minkey came out. LOL
Well, after all, he’s a wine conniseur as well as an expert on all kinds of other strong beverages, so the wine needed to be sniffed and sampled first before the others could taste it … just in case it wasn’t a good grade, of course. Those people were laughing their butts off! LOL
ANYway, after several sample sips, the Minkster started getting a little tipsy. After the testing and toasting our fellow travelers with about 3 types of wine (generous samples, too!) we were all kind of floating around and being silly.
They had two HUGE wine containers on the fireplace, and I had to sit on top and was struggling trying to open them until Minkey Mama caught me and made me go back into her purse.
After that, we went out back to check out the vineyard and see several carrier pigeons he had. I don’t think they carried the wine, but I think they did carry notes to local merchants and wine customers!
Then we went upstairs into their home and sat with them in their living room and had tea and cakes and talked with them.
They were way cool, because they would answer anything and everything and didn’t speak any English. The guide interpreted everything, and they told us how it was to live under Communism and really interesting stuff like that. They said it was actually hard on a lot of people after the communists left because they lost everything that had been provided under that political system.
On the way back, the Minkster got to sit up by the pretty guide and he liked that so he could flirt a little with her. He had on his German Lederhosen outfit, so he thought he looked pretty hot! She even gave him a big hug when it was all over.
Then we went back to the boat and visited with some other passengers and saw a little bit more of Bratislav before cruising off for the next place. We all loved sitting outside and standing up on the top of the boat watching the world go by. It’s really green and beautiful over there.
Ok. NEXT day on this incredible trip is going to be Budapest Hungary, which was one of our fav’s. It was just so unusual and had such awesome architecture, Minkey Mama couldn’t soak enough of it in!
One of the most amazing places there was way at the top of one of the steepest areas so you could see all of Budapest below. It was called Fisherman’s Bastion, and looked like a castle. WAY cool.
I’ll have to pick up that city on the next post. This one’s getting too long, and including Budapest, we have 2 more countries to visit. Ye Ha!!! This is livin’. We’re all ready to go on another trip and we haven’t finished this one yet!
So I’ll see you on the next post. If you’re subscribed to my RSS Feed, you’ll know when we’ve finished it.
See you Peeps later!
Minkey & Minkey Mama xxxooooo
